Pennsylvania State Information

Pennsylvania is a state located in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered by New York to the north, New Jersey to the east, Delaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, and Ohio to the west. Pennsylvania is the 33rd most extensive and 6th most populous state in the United States. It is home to over 12 million people and its capital is Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania has a diverse landscape with rolling hills, mountains, forests, rivers, and lakes. The Appalachian Mountains run through the middle of the state and are home to some of Pennsylvania’s most popular attractions such as Hershey Park and Gettysburg National Military Park. The Delaware River forms part of Pennsylvania’s eastern border with New Jersey and provides recreational opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming. The Allegheny Plateau covers much of western Pennsylvania and is home to many state parks including Ohiopyle State Park.

Pennsylvania has a humid continental climate with cold winters and hot summers. Average temperatures range from 20°F (-7°C) in January to 75°F (24°C) in July. Precipitation averages around 40 inches (101 cm) per year with snowfall averaging around 30 inches (76 cm).

Pennsylvania has a rich history that dates back to colonial times when it was part of William Penn’s original colony. It was one of the original 13 colonies that formed the United States of America and played an important role in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. Today, Pennsylvania is known for its strong industrial heritage as well as its vibrant cities such as Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Altoona/Johnstown/State College area, York/Hanover area, Bethlehem/Easton area, Lehigh Valley area, and more. Pennsylvania also has a thriving agricultural industry that produces dairy products such as cheese and milk as well as fruits such as apples and peaches.
