In real estate, you can select from a wide array of neighborhoods in which to invest or settle. Each neighborhood has its pros and cons, suitable to people of certain tastes and circumstances.

Gated Neighborhoods

Gated neighborhoods are characterized by their exclusivity. In gated communities or neighborhoods, only registered homeowners or property owners have unrestricted access. Everyone else needs to pass through gates and other entrances manned by security personnel. 

Since access is limited, gated communities offer property owners and homeowners excellent protection. If safety and security are high on your list of priorities, housing in a gated community is a sound investment. 

HOA Communities

HOA neighborhoods or homeowners’ association neighborhoods are, in many ways, similar to gated communities. The differences lie in the HOA fees homeowners need to pay regularly and the presence of common facilities within the neighborhood. 

HOA communities have homeowners as members. As members, homeowners need to pay monthly fees. This is something you need to factor in as you make your investment. 

HOA communities have common areas within the neighborhood. These common areas can be area amenities like playgrounds, recreational areas, and, at times, community pools. 

Golf Neighborhoods

Golf neighborhoods are neighborhoods built within or around a golf course. The proximity of properties to a golf course makes a golf neighborhood appealing to the following: 

  • Young families
  • Retirees
  • People who simply cannot get enough of golf

Often, golf neighborhoods are situated in areas that are either sunny or near coasts. Hence, weather and access to the ocean may play a role in attracting investors or prospective housing buyers. 

Master-Planned Communities

You can think of master-planned communities, or planned communities, as a combination of a gated community, a golf neighborhood, and an HOA community. Planned communities are similar to suburban areas, complete with schools, shopping establishments, and other commercial establishments. 

In a way, planned communities resemble small cities, except only the homeowners within the community have access to the neighborhood’s amenities. 

Resort Neighborhoods

Otherwise termed as active neighborhoods, resort neighborhoods are close to places like mountains, open ranges, and bodies of water. All in all, these are neighborhoods situated in places that offer many opportunities for physical activity and fun outdoors. 

Due to the areas in which you would find resort neighborhoods, the architectural styles of houses and condominiums are organic. Wood and glass are likely to be the materials of choice for many of these homes. For this reason, expect housing prices in these neighborhoods to be high. 

Urban Neighborhoods

Sometimes, city planners will allow developers to construct residential areas somewhere in the downtown part of a city. Once completed, these residential spaces become new urban neighborhoods. 

Due to being in the heart of a downtown area, new urban neighborhoods will often consist of apartments and condominiums. Houses may also comprise a new urban neighborhood, but these are often small compared to their suburban counterparts. 

A new urban neighborhood might be the best place to start a small family. It is also ideal if you want to be closer to work or enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life. 

Rural Neighborhoods

Rural neighborhoods are located miles away from a city. These neighborhoods boast wide-open spaces and a closeness to nature. Houses in rural neighborhoods may be miles away from commercial establishments. However, if you drive, this may not be an issue. 

These neighborhoods offer premium peace — perfect for those who want to be away from it all indefinitely.
