Kentucky State Information
Kentucky is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by seven states, including West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Kentucky is known for its rolling hills and lush green landscapes. The state is home to the world-famous Kentucky Derby horse race and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
The capital of Kentucky is Frankfort and the largest city is Louisville. The state has a population of 4.5 million people and covers an area of 40,409 square miles. The climate in Kentucky is generally humid subtropical with hot summers and cold winters.
The economy of Kentucky is largely based on agriculture, manufacturing, energy production, and tourism. Agriculture includes tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, beef cattle, dairy products and horses. Manufacturing includes automobiles, aerospace components, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Energy production includes coal mining and natural gas extraction. Tourism is a major industry in Kentucky with attractions such as Mammoth Cave National Park, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and Red River Gorge Geological Area.
Kentucky has a rich cultural heritage with many festivals throughout the year celebrating music, art and food from around the world. The state also has a vibrant music scene with bluegrass being one of its most popular genres. Other popular attractions include bourbon distilleries along the Bourbon Trail and horse racing at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
