Portland High School Description

Portland High School is a public high school located in Portland, Maine. Founded in 1821, it is the oldest secondary school in the state and one of the oldest continuously operating schools in the United States. The school has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students from grades 9-12.

The mission of Portland High School is to provide a safe learning environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth for all students. The curriculum includes core subjects such as English, math, science and social studies as well as electives like art, music and physical education. In addition to traditional classes, there are also Advanced Placement courses available for those who wish to challenge themselves further academically.

At Portland High School there are many extracurricular activities offered including sports teams (football, basketball, baseball/softball), clubs (drama club, student council) and other organizations (National Honor Society). There are also numerous service opportunities available through community outreach programs such as tutoring at local elementary schools or volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
