Deering High School is a public high school located in Portland, Maine. Founded in 1871, it is the oldest public high school in the state of Maine and one of the largest schools in the city. Deering serves over 1,400 students from grades 9-12 and offers an array of academic programs including Advanced Placement courses, college preparatory classes, career and technical education pathways, as well as special education services.
The mission at Deering High School is to provide a safe learning environment that encourages students to reach their highest potential through rigorous academics and meaningful extracurricular activities. The faculty are dedicated to helping each student develop into successful citizens who can contribute positively to society. In addition to its strong academic program, Deering also provides numerous opportunities for students to get involved with clubs such as National Honor Society or Student Council; participate in athletics like football or basketball; or take part in performing arts like choir or theater productions.
At Deering High School we strive for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom by providing our students with a comprehensive educational experience that will prepare them for success beyond graduation day!
