Smithsburg High School Description

Smithsburg High School is a public high school located in Smithsburg, Maryland. Founded in 1876, it is the oldest and largest high school in Washington County. The school serves students from grades 9-12 and has an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students.

The mission of Smithsburg High School is to provide a safe learning environment that encourages academic excellence, personal growth, and responsible citizenship. The faculty strives to create an atmosphere where all students can reach their full potential through rigorous instruction and meaningful experiences.

At Smithsburg High School, there are numerous opportunities for students to get involved with extracurricular activities such as sports teams (football, basketball, baseball/softball), clubs (National Honor Society, Student Council), music programs (band & choir) and more! Additionally, the school offers Advanced Placement courses which allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.

Smithsburg High School also provides its student body with access to state-of-the-art technology including computers equipped with internet access throughout the building as well as Smart Boards in each classroom. Furthermore, the library houses over 10 thousand books for research purposes or leisure reading.
