Dr. Nathan A. Pitts is the principal of Ashburton Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been at the helm since 2015 and has worked hard to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Dr. Pitts earned his Bachelor's degree in Education from Towson University and his Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Johns Hopkins University before earning his Doctorate in Educational Administration from George Washington University. His experience as an educator spans over two decades, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal throughout Maryland public schools prior to joining Ashburton Elementary/Middle School.
Under Dr. Pitts' leadership, Ashburton Elementary/Middle School has seen significant improvements in student achievement scores on state assessments such as the MSA (Maryland State Assessment). In addition to academic success, he also works diligently with faculty members to ensure that all students have access to resources they need both inside and outside of the classroom including mental health services, after-school programs, extracurricular activities, and more.
In addition to being an outstanding leader within the school community, Dr. Pitts is also highly involved with local organizations dedicated to improving education across Baltimore City Schools District such as The Fund for Educational Excellence and The Abell Foundation where he serves on their boards of directors respectively. He is passionate about providing equitable educational opportunities for all children regardless of their background or circumstances which makes him a true asset not only at Ashburton but throughout Baltimore City Schools District overall
