Hempstead High School is a public school located in Dubuque, Iowa. Founded in 1891, it is the oldest high school in Dubuque County and one of the oldest schools in the state. With an enrollment of over 1,200 students from grades 9-12, Hempstead offers a comprehensive educational experience that prepares its graduates for college and career success.
The curriculum at Hempstead includes core classes such as English, math, science and social studies as well as electives like art, music and physical education. The school also has several Advanced Placement (AP) courses available to students who wish to challenge themselves academically. In addition to academics, Hempstead provides numerous extracurricular activities including sports teams such as football and basketball; clubs like student council and National Honor Society; performing arts groups like choir and band; service organizations like Key Club; academic competitions such as Science Olympiad; and more.
