His wife, Susan, and he had been married for nearly 34 years and had lived in Wimberley for 32 years. Susan had taught for fifteen years in private and public schools. Their two daughters (Taylor Campbell Abaroa and Kayley Campbell) were both graduates of Wimberley High School. Taylor and her husband, Jose, had four children. Kayley, who was a graduate of Texas A&M, lived on the family ranch, training her four horses and working in a vet clinic.He grew up as an Army brat and moved 10 times in the first 17 years of his life. His father served for twenty-eight years and retired as a Colonel. After graduating from high school in Honolulu, Hawaii, he ventured to Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. In 1986, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education (Political Science—Major, Speech Communications—Minor). In 1993, he obtained a Master of Education (Concentration—Family and Marriage Counseling) from TSU. In April 2020, he completed a doctorate in Transformational Leadership.After ten years of youth ministry, his family and he began Cypress Creek Church (CCC) Wimberley in their living room (January 1993). He served as senior pastor for 27 years and passed the baton of leadership on January 12, 2020.
