Shortly after I got out of the Marine Corps I purchased a home that has provided me with more than I could have ever imagined.In a very short time I found that the equity building in my home was more than I could have ever saved. My only regret in buying a home has been that I didn’t buy 5 to 10 years earlier. I often wish there that someone would have pulled me aside while I was on active duty and told me I could buy a home. Not only that I could buy a home, but I should buy a home. I always dreamed of the American Dream. Little did I know, with the VA I could buy a home for little to no money out of pocket. My credit was decent and I didn’t have much debt. What I did have was a lot of doubt. I didn’t think I had enough in savings and that I just simple couldn’t afford it. There are a lot of military members and veterans in that same position. They’re not maximizing the benefits of their situation that their service truly gives. I can tell you without a doubt I would be a lot farther ahead on my future, my retirement goals, and life in general if I would've had someone to mentor me through that process.
