Mrs. Kia Chambers is a native of Columbus, Georgia, and a product of Muscogee CountySchool District. She is a proud graduate of Hardaway High School. After graduatingfrom Hardaway, Mrs. Chambers continued her education at Albany State Universitywhere she gained a BS degree in Biology with Pre-Med emphasis and a minor inChemistry. She then received her Master’s and Specialist degree in Elementary and Middle Grades Education. She spent many years in the MuscogeeCounty School District, where she served in various capacities such as a classroomteacher, Curriculum Council Representative, Academic Coach, and Teacher SupportSpecialist, to name a few. Mrs. Chambers has received various awards, and one ofher proudest moment was when she was named Teacher of the Year at HannanAcademy in 2004.As a community advocate, Mrs. Chambers is a member of many community-orientedorganizations. Currently, she serves on the Girls Inc. Board and is a Trustee for HistoricColumbus. She served on the board of Junior League of Columbus, former Partner's inEducation Chair for the Junior League of Columbus and teen advisor for Jack and Jill ofAmerica, and serves as an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The LinksIncorporated, Historic Columbus, Network of Professional Women., and the NorthColumbus Rotary Club. She currently serves as the President of The Columbus GAChapter of The Links Inc.Mrs. Chambers has received many accolades and awards, including being a graduate of 2009Class of Leadership Georgia, Graduate of 2012 Class of Leadership Columbus, Recipient of theMary Jane Galer Community Service Award, Lamda Iota Basileus Award, The 2017 BenjaminWatson Jr. Trailblazer Award and has been recognized nationally by the Links Incorporated Oneof the Talented Tenth and Regionally by Alpha Kappa Alpha as an African American HistoryMakerMrs. Chambers and her husband own a local real estate company where she serves asthe managing broker. Mrs. Chambers is a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Cluband Circle of Excellence for Realtors. In May 2014, Mrs. Chambers became the firstAfrican American to be elected to the only City-Wide seat on the Muscogee CountySchool District. In 2016, Mrs. Chambers was appointed to serve as the District 3a representative for the Georgia School Board Association, and in January 2017, she waselected to serve as the Vice Chair of the board for the Muskogee County School District.January 2018, Kia Chambers was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Board for theMuscogee County School Board. She was re-elected as the city-wide representative fora 2 nd term in 2018, and in 2020, she was elected to serve a 2nd term on GeorgiaSchool Board Association Board of Directors, where she represents 12 counties, including Muscogee and Harris.Kia Chambers has been married to her husband, Travis Chambers, for 28 years, andthey have three boys, ages 26, 19, and 17.
