About this 3 bedroom 5 bath house

Set within approximately 23 acres of secluded meadows and woodland in Ancram, New York, Artist Retreat is an exceptional architectural residence designed by the acclaimed firm GLUCK+. Completed in 2014, the approximately 6,080-square-foot home represents a distinctive approach to contemporary country living, where architecture and landscape are conceived as a unified experience. Rather than imposing a singular structure upon the land, the residence unfolds as a collection of intimately scaled, wood-clad volumes connected by glass-enclosed passageways. Inspired by the agricultural patterns of the surrounding Hudson Valley, the buildings are arranged in a shifting grid that responds to the property's natural topography. This thoughtful composition creates a remarkable balance between openness and privacy, allowing the home to feel both expansive and intimately connected to its setting. Throughout the residence, generous expanses of glass frame views of the surrounding landscape, while carefully considered transitions between interior and exterior spaces establish a continuous relationship with nature. Each volume offers its own distinct perspective, while the connecting corridors bring the individual spaces together into a cohesive architectural whole. The surrounding acreage is integral to the experience of the property. Open meadows, mature trees, and wooded areas provide exceptional privacy and a sense of immersion in the natural environment. A separate barn offers additional flexibility for a variety of uses, complementing the property's character as a private country retreat. Situated in southern Columbia County, Artist Retreat occupies a particularly compelling corner of the Hudson Valley, a region distinguished by historic farmland, rolling countryside, and extensive areas of protected open space. Nearby conservation lands, including the Overmountain Conservation Area, contribute to the enduring rural character of the surrounding landscape.
