The broader UCC heritage in Frederick County stretches back to early German Reformed settlers around 1745 led by pioneer schoolmaster John Thomas Schley. Operating on Liberty Road in the Mount Pleasant area outside Frederick City, the rural congregation functions under the wider umbrella of the UCC National Setting and local conferences, maintaining a modest community presence. Founded by German Reformed settlers led by schoolmaster John Thomas Schley, the Founder of Frederick City. The church was created through the 1957 merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Church,. The property at 9624 Liberty Road in Frederick, Maryland, features a modest, traditional mid-20th-century countryside house of worship. Located within the unincorporated rural community of Mount Pleasant along Maryland Route 26 (Liberty Road), the building reflects the evolution of local community-centered ecclesiastical architecture. The building is designed in a traditional vernacular church style, featuring a simple rectangular main sanctuary with a classic front-gable roof profile typical of rural Maryland community churches. The primary exterior structure utilizes light-colored building materials, maintaining a clean, unadorned layout integrated with a handicap-accessible main entryway. Setting: It is situated on a semi-rural lot surrounded by open green spaces and farmland characteristic of eastern Frederick County's rolling Piedmont landscape. The building serves as the permanent home of the Mount Pleasant Reformed United Church of Christ. Its presence on Liberty Road anchors the local congregation, distinguishing it from nearby historical structures like the 18th-century Beatty-Cramer House down the road .Unlike the grand stone and brick architectural styles found in downtown Frederick—such as the landmark Evangelical Reformed UCC building—this structure was built to offer a local, easily accessible place of worship for the surrounding agricultural community.
