Longview, Washington Description
Longview, Washington is a city located in the southwestern corner of the state, along the Columbia River. It is the county seat of Cowlitz County and has a population of approximately 36,000 people. The city is known for its beautiful views of Mount St. Helens and its proximity to Portland, Oregon.
The city was founded in 1884 by Captain William S. Long and was originally named Monticello. It was later renamed Longview in 1924 after Captain Long's nickname "Longie". The city has grown steadily since then and now boasts a vibrant economy with many businesses, including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, education, and tourism.
Longview is home to several parks and recreational areas such as Lake Sacajawea Park which offers swimming, fishing, boating, camping and hiking opportunities. There are also several golf courses in the area as well as an indoor water park called Great Wolf Lodge. The city also hosts several annual festivals such as the Cowlitz County Fair and the Longview Jazz Festival.
The downtown area of Longview is filled with historic buildings from the early 20th century that have been restored to their original beauty.
