Kelso, Washington Description
Kelso, Washington is a small city located in the southwestern corner of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Cowlitz River and is part of the Longview metropolitan area. The city has a population of around 11,000 people and covers an area of 8.3 square miles.
Kelso is known for its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. The Cowlitz River runs through the city and provides plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating, and other water sports. There are also several parks in the area that offer hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and more. The nearby Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument offers stunning views of the volcano and surrounding landscape.
The downtown area of Kelso features a variety of shops, restaurants, and other businesses that cater to both locals and visitors alike. There are also several historic buildings in town that have been preserved over time. The city hosts several annual events such as the Cowlitz County Fair and Kelso’s Fourth of July celebration which draw large crowds from all over the region.
Kelso is served by two school districts: Longview Public Schools and Kelso School District #402. Both districts offer a variety of educational opportunities for students from kindergarten through high school graduation. In addition to public schools, there are also several private schools in town as well as higher education options at Lower Columbia College located just outside of town limits.
