Federal Way, Washington Description
Federal Way is a city located in the state of Washington, USA. It is situated in King County, approximately 25 miles south of Seattle and 20 miles north of Tacoma. The city has a population of around 95,000 people and covers an area of 31 square miles.
The city was founded in 1990 and is known for its diverse population and vibrant culture. It is home to many parks, trails, and recreational areas including Dash Point State Park, Steel Lake Park, Celebration Park, and the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The city also boasts a variety of shopping centers such as The Commons at Federal Way and The Commons at Southcenter Mall.
The economy of Federal Way is largely based on retail trade, healthcare services, manufacturing, construction, education services, professional services, finance & insurance services, and transportation & warehousing. Major employers include Weyerhaeuser Company, St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center, Highline Community College District #4019, Boeing Company (Renton), Amazon Fulfillment Center (Kent), Walmart Supercenter (Federal Way), and Fred Meyer (Federal Way).
The city offers a variety of educational opportunities with several public schools including Federal Way Public Schools (K-12) as well as private schools such as St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School (K-8) and Todd Beamer High School (9-12). Higher education institutions include Highline College and University of Washington Tacoma Campus.
