Cle Elum, Washington Description
Cle Elum, WA, USA is a small town located in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. It is situated at an elevation of 2,000 feet and is surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills. The town has a population of around 1,800 people and is known for its outdoor activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, camping, fishing and hunting.
The town was founded in 1886 by railroad workers who were building the Great Northern Railway. The town was named after Chief Cle Elum of the Yakama Nation who had granted permission for the railway to be built through his land.
The town has a historic downtown area with many old buildings that have been preserved from the early days of the town's founding. There are several restaurants and shops in downtown Cle Elum as well as a few museums that showcase the history of the area.
The nearby mountains provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation including skiing at Snoqualmie Pass or hiking on trails such as Iron Horse State Park or Salmon La Sac. There are also several lakes in the area that offer fishing and boating opportunities.
Cle Elum is also home to several annual events such as the Cle Elum Days Festival which celebrates local culture with music, food, art and more. The town also hosts an annual rodeo which draws visitors from all over Washington State.
