Camas, Washington Description
Camas, Washington is a small city located in Clark County, just east of Vancouver. It is situated on the north bank of the Columbia River and is part of the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area. The city has a population of over 20,000 people and is known for its picturesque views and outdoor activities.
The city was founded in 1883 by William S. Ladd, who named it after the camas lily, which grows in abundance in the area. The city has grown steadily since then and today it is home to many businesses and industries, including paper mills, technology companies, and medical centers.
Camas offers a variety of recreational activities for residents and visitors alike. There are several parks located throughout the city that offer hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and sports fields. The Lacamas Lake Regional Park is a popular destination for swimming, fishing, boating, camping, and other outdoor activities. The Camas-Washougal National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for numerous species of birds and other wildlife.
The downtown area features many shops and restaurants as well as art galleries and museums. There are also several annual festivals held throughout the year that celebrate local culture such as the Camas Days Festival in July or the Camas Farmers Market in August.
Camas is also home to several schools including Camas High School which serves grades 9-12 as well as two middle schools (Skyridge Middle School & Liberty Middle School) that serve grades 6-8.
