Dumfries, Virginia is a small town located in Prince William County, about 25 miles south of Washington D.C. It is situated on the banks of the Potomac River and is part of the Washington Metropolitan Area. The town has a population of around 4,500 people and is known for its historic buildings and quaint downtown area.
The town was founded in 1749 by John Graham and named after his ancestral home in Scotland. It was an important port during the Revolutionary War and served as a major trading center for tobacco, grain, and other goods. Today, Dumfries is a vibrant community with many attractions to explore.
The downtown area features several historic buildings including the Old Town Hall, which dates back to 1750 and serves as a museum today.
