Ashburn, Virginia is a census-designated place located in Loudoun County, Virginia. It is situated about 30 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., and is part of the Washington metropolitan area. The population of Ashburn was 43,511 at the 2010 census.
Ashburn is home to many businesses and organizations, including the headquarters of Verizon Business and Orbital Sciences Corporation. It also has several shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The area is served by two major highways: Route 7 and the Dulles Greenway (Route 267).
The climate in Ashburn is typical of the mid-Atlantic region with hot summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from lows in the 20s during winter months to highs in the 80s during summer months. Rainfall averages around 40 inches per year with snowfall averaging around 15 inches per year.
The town of Ashburn has a rich history dating back to colonial times when it was first settled by Quakers in 1740. In 1824, Ashburn became an incorporated town and was later annexed into Loudoun County in 1975.
