Alexandria, Virginia Description
Alexandria, Virginia is a vibrant and historic city located just outside of Washington, D.C. in the northern part of the state. It is situated on the Potomac River and is home to a population of over 150,000 people. The city has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1749 and was once home to George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
Today, Alexandria is known for its charming cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and waterfront views. The city has a thriving arts scene with numerous galleries, museums, theaters, and music venues. There are also plenty of restaurants offering everything from classic American fare to international cuisine.
The city is home to many parks and green spaces including the popular Old Town Waterfront Park which offers stunning views of the Potomac River and Washington Monument. Other attractions include the Torpedo Factory Art Center, George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, and the National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum.
Alexandria is also known for its excellent public transportation system which includes Metrobus, Metrorail, VRE commuter rail service, as well as Amtrak service to nearby cities such as Baltimore and Philadelphia. The city also has an extensive bike share program that makes it easy for residents to get around town without having to drive or take public transportation.
