St. George, Utah Description
St. George, UT is a city located in the southwestern corner of Utah, near the Arizona border. It is the county seat of Washington County and has a population of around 80,000 people. The city is known for its mild climate and outdoor recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for retirees and vacationers alike.
The city was founded in 1861 by Mormon settlers and named after George A. Smith, an early leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). St. George is home to several LDS temples and other religious sites, as well as numerous historical sites related to the area’s Mormon heritage.
St. George is situated at the convergence of three distinct geographic regions: the Mojave Desert to the west, the Colorado Plateau to the north, and the Great Basin to the east.
