Coalville, Utah Description
Coalville is a small city located in Summit County, Utah, United States. It is situated at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and is part of the Wasatch Front metropolitan area. The population was 1,382 at the 2010 census.
The city was founded in 1859 by Mormon pioneers who were sent to settle the area by Brigham Young. Coalville was named for its coal deposits, which were mined until the early 20th century. The city has since become a bedroom community for nearby Park City and Salt Lake City.
Coalville is home to several historic sites, including the Coalville LDS Tabernacle and the Old Town Hall Museum. The city also hosts an annual Pioneer Day celebration each July 24th to commemorate its founding.
The climate in Coalville is semi-arid with cold winters and hot summers. Average temperatures range from a low of 19°F (-7°C) in January to a high of 87°F (31°C) in July. Precipitation averages around 17 inches (43 cm) per year, with most occurring during spring and summer months. Snowfall averages around 60 inches (152 cm) per year, with most occurring during winter months.
Coalville offers many outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling in nearby Uinta National Forest or on local trails like Mirror Lake Highway or Wolf Creek Pass Trailhead. There are also several golf courses located within a short drive from town.
