Weslaco, Texas Description
Weslaco is a city located in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County and is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission metropolitan area. Weslaco is known for its rich cultural heritage, warm climate, and vibrant economy.
The city was founded in 1919 by John Closner, who named it after his hometown of Weslaco, Kentucky. The city has grown steadily since then and now has a population of over 40,000 people. The city is home to many businesses and industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and education.
Weslaco has a subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from the mid-60s in winter to the mid-90s in summer. The city receives an average of 33 inches of rain per year.
The city offers a variety of attractions for visitors to enjoy. These include museums such as the Museum of South Texas History and the International Museum of Art & Science; parks such as Estero Llano Grande State Park; golf courses; shopping centers; restaurants; and entertainment venues like cinemas and bowling alleys.
Weslaco also hosts several annual events such as the Weslaco Fiesta Days celebration in April and the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival in October. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year that celebrate its culture and heritage including Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations in November and December.
