The Colony, Texas Description
The Colony is a city located in Denton County, Texas, United States. It is a suburb of Dallas and part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The population was 36,328 at the 2010 census. The Colony is home to the Five Star Athletic Complex, which hosted the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
The Colony has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from lows of 40°F (4°C) in winter to highs of 95°F (35°C) in summer. The average annual precipitation is 37 inches (940 mm).
The Colony has a diverse economy with many businesses and industries located within its borders. Major employers include Pizza Hut, Frito-Lay, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and Toyota Motor North America. The city also has several shopping centers and retail stores including The Shops at Legacy, Grandscape, and Nebraska Furniture Mart.
The Colony is served by two school districts: Lewisville Independent School District and Little Elm Independent School District. There are also several private schools in the area including Trinity Christian Academy and Prestonwood Christian Academy. Higher education opportunities are available at nearby University of North Texas at Dallas and Collin College campuses in Frisco and McKinney.
