Texas City, Texas Description
Texas City is a city located in Galveston County, Texas, United States. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The population was 45,099 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Galveston County, behind League City and Galveston. It is a part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area.
Texas City is notable for its large industrial complex, where petroleum refining and petrochemical production are major industries. The city has a total area of 48 square miles (124 km2), of which 35 square miles (91 km2) is land and 13 square miles (33 km2) (27%) is water. The city has an average elevation of 6 feet above sea level.
The climate in Texas City is subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from lows in the 40s during winter to highs in the 90s during summer months. Rainfall averages around 40 inches per year with most precipitation occurring during spring and summer months.
Texas City has a variety of attractions including beaches, parks, museums, shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The city also hosts several annual festivals such as Mardi Gras Galveston and Texas City Dike Festival & Fireworks Show. There are also several golf courses located within the city limits as well as nearby Galveston Island State Park which offers camping facilities and beach access for visitors to enjoy.
