Sugar Land, Texas is a vibrant and diverse city located in the Greater Houston area of Fort Bend County. With a population of over 88,000 people, Sugar Land is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. It is known for its excellent schools, low crime rate, and high quality of life.
The city has a rich history that dates back to 1823 when Stephen F. Austin granted land to William Scott and his family. The Scott family named their settlement “Sugar Land” due to the abundance of sugar cane in the area. In 1959, Sugar Land was incorporated as a city and has since grown into a thriving community with many amenities and attractions.
Sugar Land offers residents an array of activities and attractions including shopping centers, golf courses, parks, museums, theaters, restaurants, and more. The city also hosts several annual events such as the Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair and the Imperial Festival which celebrates the city’s cultural heritage.
The economy of Sugar Land is largely based on professional services such as healthcare, finance, technology, education, retail trade, manufacturing and construction. Major employers include Fluor Corporation, Schlumberger Technology Corporation and Memorial Hermann Healthcare System.
Sugar Land is served by two school districts: Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) and Lamar Consolidated Independent School District (LCISD). FBISD serves most of Sugar Land while LCISD serves parts of Missouri City and Stafford. Both districts offer excellent educational opportunities for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
