Sherman, Texas Description
Sherman, TX is a city located in the north of Texas, about an hour north of Dallas. It is the county seat of Grayson County and has a population of around 40,000 people. The city was founded in 1846 and named after General Sidney Sherman, a hero of the Texas Revolution.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many buildings from the late 19th century. There are several museums and galleries in the area as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. The city also has several parks and recreational areas including Fairview Park, Pecan Grove Park, and Lake Texoma State Park.
Sherman is home to Austin College, a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1849. The college offers undergraduate degrees in a variety of fields including business, education, engineering, and more. The city also has several public schools including Sherman High School which serves grades 9-12.
The economy of Sherman is largely based on manufacturing with companies such as Tyson Foods and Denso Manufacturing having major operations in the area.
