Port Arthur, Texas is a city located in Jefferson County, Texas. It is situated on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area. The city has a population of 54,818 as of 2019 and is known for its rich history and culture.

The city was founded in 1837 by Thomas F. McKinney and named after Arthur Stilwell, who was a railroad developer. Port Arthur has been an important port since its founding, serving as a major shipping hub for oil and other products from the Gulf Coast region. The city has also been home to several large industries such as oil refining, petrochemical production, and shipbuilding.

Port Arthur is home to many attractions including the Museum of the Gulf Coast which showcases the history of the area; Sea Rim State Park which offers camping, fishing, bird watching, and other outdoor activities; Pleasure Island which features an amusement park; and Sabine Lake which provides excellent fishing opportunities. The city also hosts several annual festivals such as Mardi Gras and Taste of Port Arthur.

The climate in Port Arthur is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature ranges from 50°F (10°C) in January to 90°F (32°C) in July. Rainfall averages around 48 inches (122 cm) per year with most occurring during the summer months.

Port Arthur is served by two airports: Jack Brooks Regional Airport (BPT) located just outside the city limits and Southeast Texas Regional Airport (BPT) located about 30 miles away in Beaumont.
