Palestine, Texas Description
Palestine, Texas is a small city located in Anderson County, Texas. It is situated in the East Texas Piney Woods region and is approximately 150 miles southeast of Dallas. The city has a population of around 18,000 people and covers an area of about 16 square miles.
The city was founded in 1846 by settlers from the nearby town of Palestine, Illinois. It was named after the biblical land of Palestine and was incorporated in 1848. The city has a rich history and many historic buildings still stand today.
The economy of Palestine is largely based on agriculture, with cotton being the main crop grown in the area. Other industries include manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and tourism. The city also serves as a regional hub for transportation and commerce.
Palestine is home to several educational institutions including Angelina College, Trinity Valley Community College, and the University of Texas at Tyler-Palestine Campus.
