New Caney, Texas Description
New Caney, TX is a small town located in Montgomery County, Texas. It is situated about 30 miles northeast of Houston and is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The population was estimated to be around 20,000 in 2019.
New Caney has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s when it was first settled by German immigrants. The town was originally called Presswood after one of its earliest settlers, but the name was changed to New Caney in 1883 when the post office opened.
The town has grown steadily over the years and today it is home to a variety of businesses and industries including oil and gas production, manufacturing, retail stores, restaurants, and more. There are also several parks and recreational areas for residents to enjoy such as Lake Houston State Park and Jesse Jones Park & Nature Center.
New Caney is served by two school districts: New Caney Independent School District (NCISD) and Splendora Independent School District (SISD). NCISD serves most of the city while SISD serves parts of East Montgomery County. Both districts offer a variety of educational opportunities for students from pre-K through 12th grade.
The city also offers plenty of entertainment options for residents including movie theaters, bowling alleys, golf courses, museums, art galleries, and more. There are also several annual festivals held in New Caney such as the Texas Crawfish Festival and the New Caney Rodeo & BBQ Cook-Off.
