Navasota, Texas Description
Navasota is a small city located in Grimes County, Texas, United States. It is situated along the Brazos River and is the county seat of Grimes County. The population was 7,049 at the 2010 census, up from 5,965 at the 2000 census.
Navasota is known as "The Blues Capital of Texas" due to its rich musical heritage and its annual blues festival. The city has a vibrant downtown area with many historic buildings and businesses. There are several parks and recreational areas in Navasota, including the Navasota Riverwalk Park which features a walking trail along the Brazos River.
Navasota is home to several educational institutions including Navasota High School, Navasota Junior High School, and Navasota Elementary School. The city also has a branch of Blinn College which offers associate degrees and certificates in various fields of study.
Navasota has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is around 90°F (32°C) while the average temperature in January is around 50°F (10°C). Rainfall averages around 40 inches (101 cm) per year with most of it occurring during the spring months.
