Mission, Texas is a city located in Hidalgo County, Texas. It is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission metropolitan area and is situated along the Rio Grande river. The city has a population of 83,000 people and is known for its rich culture and history.

The city was founded in 1846 by settlers from the Canary Islands who were looking for a place to settle and start their own community. Mission quickly grew into an agricultural center with cotton, citrus fruits, vegetables, and grains being grown in the area. The city also became known for its vibrant art scene with many galleries and museums showcasing local artwork.

Mission is home to several parks including Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park which offers camping, hiking trails, bird watching, and other outdoor activities. The city also has a number of historic sites such as the La Lomita Chapel which was built in 1865 and is one of the oldest churches in South Texas.

The economy of Mission is largely based on agriculture with many farms located in the area producing cotton, citrus fruits, vegetables, and grains.
