Mineral Wells, Texas Description
Mineral Wells, Texas is a small city located in Palo Pinto County, about 70 miles west of Fort Worth. It is known for its mineral-rich waters and the famous Crazy Water Hotel. The city has a population of around 16,000 people and is home to several historic sites, including the Mineral Wells State Park and the Baker Hotel.
The city was founded in 1877 when two men discovered mineral-rich water near the Brazos River. The water was believed to have healing properties and soon became popular with visitors from all over the country. In 1911, the Crazy Water Hotel was built to accommodate these visitors. The hotel still stands today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The city is also home to several other attractions, including Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway, which offers camping, fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and more. There are also several museums in town that showcase local history and culture. These include the Palo Pinto County Historical Museum and the Mineral Wells Fossil Park & Museum.
Mineral Wells has a vibrant downtown area with shops, restaurants, galleries and more. There are also several annual events held throughout the year such as the Crazy Water Festival in May and the Mineral Wells Arts & Crafts Fair in October. The city also hosts an annual rodeo each summer at nearby Possum Kingdom Lake.
