Mesquite, Texas is a city located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the U.S. state of Texas. It is situated east of Dallas and has a population of around 140,000 people. Mesquite is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere, as well as its proximity to major cities like Dallas and Fort Worth.
The city was founded in 1873 by John S. Armstrong and was originally called Armstrong Station. The town was renamed Mesquite in 1887 after the mesquite trees that grew in abundance in the area. Today, Mesquite is home to many businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
Mesquite offers a variety of attractions for visitors to enjoy, such as the Mesquite ProRodeo which takes place every year at the Mesquite Arena. The city also has several parks and recreational areas including Big Town Lake Park which features a lake with fishing opportunities, walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds and more. Other attractions include the Mesquite Arts Center which hosts concerts and other events throughout the year as well as an outdoor amphitheater for summer concerts.
Mesquite also has several museums including the Mesquite Historical Museum which showcases artifacts from early settlers to modern times as well as a replica of an old-fashioned general store from the 1800s. The city also has several golf courses for those looking to hit some balls on their visit to Mesquite.
