Mercedes, Texas Description
Mercedes is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. It is located on the Rio Grande, across from the Mexican city of Reynosa, and is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas. The population was estimated to be at 22,844 as of 2019.
Mercedes is known for its rich history and culture. The city was founded in 1904 by German settlers who named it after their hometown of Mercedes, Argentina. The city has grown to become an important center for trade and commerce in South Texas. It is home to several large manufacturing plants, including a Ford Motor Company plant that produces F-150 pickup trucks.
The city has a variety of attractions for visitors to enjoy. The Mercedes Historical Museum showcases the history of the area with artifacts from the early days of settlement to present day. The nearby Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge offers visitors a chance to explore nature and observe wildlife in its natural habitat. Other attractions include the Mercedes Municipal Golf Course, which offers 18 holes of golfing fun; the Mercedes Public Library; and several parks with playgrounds and picnic areas.

There are also plenty of shopping opportunities in town with stores ranging from small boutiques to large department stores like Walmart Supercenter and Target Supercenter.
