Kilgore, Texas Description
Kilgore, Texas is a small city located in the northeastern part of the state, about 120 miles east of Dallas. It is situated in Gregg County and has a population of just over 12,000 people. The city was founded in 1872 and named after James Kilgore, an early settler.
Kilgore is known for its oil industry and is home to the East Texas Oil Museum, which celebrates the history of oil production in the area. The museum features artifacts from the early days of oil exploration and production as well as interactive exhibits that explain how oil drilling works.
The city also has a vibrant downtown area with many shops and restaurants. There are several parks throughout Kilgore, including Kilgore City Park which features a playground, walking trails, picnic areas, and a lake with fishing opportunities. The city also hosts several annual events such as the East Texas State Fair and the Great Texas Balloon Race.
