Henderson, Texas Description
Henderson, Texas is a small city located in the northeastern part of the state, about 100 miles east of Dallas. It is the county seat of Rusk County and has a population of around 13,000 people. The city was founded in 1846 and named after James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of Texas.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. There are also several museums and galleries that showcase local history and culture. The downtown area also has a variety of shops, restaurants, and other businesses.
Henderson is home to several parks and recreational areas including Lake Striker, which offers fishing, boating, camping, swimming, and other activities. There are also several golf courses in the area as well as a number of trails for hiking and biking.
The city is served by two school districts: Henderson Independent School District (HISD) and Rusk County Independent School District (RCISD). Both districts offer elementary through high school education with HISD having an additional alternative school program for students who need extra help or have special needs.
The economy in Henderson is largely based on agriculture with cotton being one of the main crops grown in the area. Other industries include manufacturing, retail trade, healthcare services, construction, transportation services, finance/insurance/real estate services, educational services, professional/scientific/technical services as well as government jobs.
