Edinburg, Texas is a city located in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County and is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission metropolitan area. The city has a population of 87,650 as of 2019 and is known for its vibrant culture, diverse economy, and rich history.
The city was founded in 1908 by John Closner, who named it after his hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburg has grown to become a major hub for commerce and industry in the Rio Grande Valley. It is home to several universities and colleges, including the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), South Texas College (STC), and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK).
