Cass, Texas Description
Cass, TX, USA is a small town located in the northeast corner of Texas. It is situated on the banks of the Sulphur River and is part of the Texarkana metropolitan area. The population of Cass is just over 1,000 people and it has a total area of 2.2 square miles.
The town was founded in 1873 by settlers from Arkansas and named after General Thomas Jefferson Chambers, who served in the Texas Revolution. The town was originally a farming community but has since become a bedroom community for nearby Texarkana.
The climate in Cass is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit while the average temperature in January is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall averages around 45 inches per year with most of it occurring during the spring months.
Cass offers many recreational activities for its residents including fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and bird watching at nearby Lake Wright Patman State Park. There are also several local restaurants and shops to explore as well as an annual festival held each summer called "Cass Days".
