Burnet, Texas Description
Burnet, Texas is a small city located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It is situated in Burnet County, about 55 miles northwest of Austin and 85 miles north of San Antonio. The city has a population of around 6,000 people and covers an area of 8.2 square miles.
The city was founded in 1847 by Adam Rankin Johnson and named after David Gouverneur Burnet, the first president of the Republic of Texas. The city has a rich history that includes being the site of several battles during the Texas Revolution and Civil War.
Burnet is known for its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking, biking, hunting, and golfing. There are several parks located within the city limits including Hamilton Creek Park which features a playground, picnic areas, and trails for walking or biking. The nearby Inks Lake State Park offers swimming, boating, fishing, camping, and other recreational activities.
