Big Spring, Texas Description
Big Spring, Texas is a small city located in the western part of the state, about halfway between Midland and Abilene. It is the county seat of Howard County and has a population of around 28,000 people. The city was founded in 1882 and named after a large spring that was located near the original town site.
The city is known for its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. Big Spring State Park is located just outside of town and offers camping, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, and more. The Comanche Trail Lake is also nearby and provides excellent fishing opportunities.
The downtown area of Big Spring has many historic buildings that have been preserved over the years. There are several restaurants, shops, galleries, and other attractions to explore in this area. The Big Spring Heritage Museum showcases local history with artifacts from the early days of settlement in the area.
Big Spring also has a vibrant arts scene with several galleries featuring local artists’ work as well as performances by local musicians at various venues throughout town. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year such as the Big Spring Cowboy Reunion & Music Festival which celebrates western heritage with rodeos, music performances, art shows, and more.
