Athens, Texas Description
Athens, Texas is a small city located in Henderson County, about 70 miles southeast of Dallas. It is the county seat and has a population of around 13,000 people. The city was founded in 1846 and named after Athens, Greece.
Athens is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. The downtown area also includes several restaurants, shops, and galleries. The city also has several parks including the Athens City Park which features a lake, walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
The city is home to several educational institutions including Trinity Valley Community College and the University of Texas at Tyler-Athens Center. There are also several private schools in the area such as Athens Christian Academy and St. Joseph Catholic School.
