Savannah, Tennessee Description
Savannah, Tennessee is a small city located in Hardin County, about 90 miles east of Memphis. It is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River and is known for its beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. The city has a population of around 7,000 people and is home to several historic sites, including the Savannah Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The downtown area of Savannah is filled with quaint shops and restaurants that offer a variety of local cuisine. There are also several parks and recreational areas in the city, including the Savannah City Park, which features a playground, picnic areas, walking trails, and a fishing pond. The nearby Pickwick Lake State Park offers camping, boating, swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Savannah is also home to several annual festivals and events such as the Savannah Music Festival in April and the Savannah Riverfest in October. The city also hosts an annual Fourth of July celebration that includes fireworks displays over the river.
The economy of Savannah is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city has several large employers such as Tyson Foods Inc., which produces chicken products at its plant located just outside of town. Other major employers include WestRock Company (paper products), Hardin County Schools (education), and Walmart (retail).
