Gallatin, Tennessee Description
Gallatin is a city in Sumner County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 30,678 at the 2010 census and 32,307 in 2019. It is the county seat of Sumner County and is located about 30 miles northeast of Nashville.
Gallatin is part of the Nashville metropolitan area and is known for its historic downtown area. The city has a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. It also has several parks and recreational areas, including Bledsoe Creek State Park and Old Hickory Lake.
The city was founded in 1802 by William Edmondson and named after Albert Gallatin, Secretary of the Treasury under President Thomas Jefferson. It quickly became an important trading center for the region due to its location on the Cumberland River. In the late 19th century, it became a major railroad hub with several lines running through it.
Today, Gallatin is a thriving community with a strong economy based on manufacturing, healthcare, education, retail trade, and tourism. It is home to several large employers such as General Motors Corporation and Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC. The city also boasts excellent schools and numerous cultural attractions such as the Sumner County Museum and Gallatin Civic Center.
