Columbia, Tennessee Description
Columbia, Tennessee is a small city located in the southern part of the state, about 40 miles south of Nashville. It is the county seat of Maury County and has a population of around 35,000 people. The city was founded in 1807 and named after Christopher Columbus.
The city is known for its historic downtown area, which features many buildings from the 19th century. There are several museums and galleries in the area, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. The city also hosts several festivals throughout the year, including Mule Day and the Columbia Arts Festival.
The climate in Columbia is mild with hot summers and cool winters. The average temperature ranges from around 50 degrees Fahrenheit in winter to around 90 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Rainfall averages around 45 inches per year.
Columbia is home to several colleges and universities, including Columbia State Community College, Martin Methodist College, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center at Maury Regional Hospital. There are also numerous parks and recreational areas throughout the city, including Riverside Park on the banks of Duck River.
