Fort Mill, South Carolina Description

Fort Mill is a town located in York County, South Carolina, United States. It is situated along the I-77 corridor in the northernmost part of South Carolina, and is approximately 15 miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. The population was 13,541 at the 2010 census.

Fort Mill is known for its historic downtown area with many quaint shops and restaurants. The town also has a number of parks and recreational areas including Walter Elisha Park, which features a playground, walking trails, picnic shelters and a lake. The Anne Springs Close Greenway is also nearby and offers over 2,000 acres of natural beauty with hiking trails, mountain biking trails and horseback riding trails.

The town is home to several large employers such as Continental Tire the Americas LLC, LPL Financial Holdings Inc., Domtar Corporation and Springs Industries Inc. Fort Mill also has a vibrant arts scene with several galleries and performance venues such as the Old Town Amphitheater which hosts concerts throughout the year.

Fort Mill has an excellent school system with several elementary schools, middle schools and high schools including Nation Ford High School which was recently named one of the top high schools in South Carolina by US News & World Report. The town also has several higher education institutions such as Winthrop University which offers undergraduate degrees in various fields of study.

Overall Fort Mill is an excellent place to live with its small-town charm combined with big city amenities making it an ideal place for families or those looking for a quiet place to call home.
