West Chester, Pennsylvania Description

West Chester, PA is a borough located in the heart of Chester County, Pennsylvania. It is situated approximately 20 miles west of Philadelphia and is part of the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. West Chester has a population of 19,846 as of the 2010 census and is the county seat of Chester County.

West Chester was founded in 1799 and was originally known as Turk’s Head after its founder, John Turpin. The town was renamed West Chester in 1810 and has since become a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.

The town is home to many historic sites including the West Chester Railroad Station, which dates back to 1832 and is now a museum; the Old Court House, which was built in 1812; and the West Chester Armory, which was built in 1814. There are also several parks located throughout the borough including Everhart Park, Marshall Square Park, and East Goshen Park.

West Chester University is located within the borough and provides educational opportunities for students from all over Pennsylvania. The university offers more than 150 undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs in business administration, education, nursing, social work, engineering, computer science and more.

The downtown area of West Chester features many shops and restaurants that offer unique items for visitors to enjoy. There are also several art galleries located throughout town that feature works from local artists. The borough also hosts several festivals throughout the year such as Taste of West Chester in June and Oktoberfest in October.

West Chester is an ideal place to live or visit due to its close proximity to Philadelphia while still maintaining its small-town charm. With its rich history and vibrant culture, it’s no wonder why so many people choose to call West Chester home!
