Reading, Pennsylvania is a city located in the southeastern part of the state, about 55 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It is the county seat of Berks County and has a population of 88,082 as of 2019. The city is situated along the Schuylkill River and is known for its rich history and culture.
Reading was founded in 1748 by William Penn's son Thomas and was originally called "Reading Town". It quickly grew to become an important trading center due to its location at the intersection of several major roads. During the 19th century, Reading became an industrial powerhouse with numerous factories producing textiles, paper products, cigars, and other goods. The city also had a thriving railroad industry which connected it to other parts of Pennsylvania and beyond.
Today, Reading is home to several educational institutions including Albright College, Penn State Berks Campus, Reading Area Community College, and Kutztown University.
