Lehman, Pennsylvania Description
Lehman, PA is a small borough located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains and is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area. The population of Lehman was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
The town was founded in 1848 by John Lehman, a German immigrant who purchased land from the local Native Americans and built a sawmill on the banks of Harveys Creek. The town grew quickly and soon became an important center for lumber production. By 1875, Lehman had become a thriving community with several stores, churches, schools, and other businesses.
Today, Lehman remains a small but vibrant community with many historic buildings still standing. The downtown area features several restaurants and shops as well as a post office and library. There are also several parks in town including Harveys Creek Park which offers fishing and picnicking opportunities along its banks.
Lehman is home to many festivals throughout the year including the annual Lehman Days celebration which takes place each summer. This event features live music, food vendors, carnival rides, and more! Other popular events include the Christmas Parade held each December and the Fourth of July fireworks display which lights up the night sky over Harveys Creek Park.
Lehman is also home to several educational institutions including Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus which offers associate's degrees in various fields such as business administration and nursing. There are also two private schools located in town: Holy Family Academy and St. Mary's School both of which offer K-12 education to local students.
